A question for all you Van Morrison fans out there in Gator land. There must be a few among all you nice Irish folks.

A Van Morrison song was used as the "theme song" for the final episode of The Sopranos, Season 5. (the episode where Tony S kills his cousin Tony B  outside the house in upstate NY). The song is fairly upbeat and I believe starts with the phrase " And they lay you low..." There is also a refrain in the song that goes "la la la la...la la la la... la la la al ... la la la la ."

I'm going nuts trying to find this song and the album it appears on. I have at least two of his greatest hits albums and it's not on either. It's not on Moondance either or his new album.

No prize is being offered. You'll just be helping an aging alum solve a mystery. Any ideas?

Ralphie Boy, here you go:

Glad Tidings lyrics
Van Morrison

And they'll lay you down low and easy
And it looks like you kids will stay Christmas
It demands that you travel the distance

So believe no lies, dry your eyes and realize
By surprise
La, la, la, la - la, la, la, la - la, la, la, la - la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la - la, la, la, la - la, la, la, la - la, la, la, la

And the business will shake hands and talk in numbers
And the princess will wake up from her slumber
Then all the knight’s will step fourth with their arm bands
And every stranger you meet in the street will make demands

So believe no lies, then dry your eyes and realize
By surprise
La, la, la la …

And we'll send you glad tidings from New York
Open up your eyes so you may see
Ask you not to read between the lines
Hope that you will come right in on time, oh

And they'll talk to you while you're in trances
And you'll visualize not taking any chances
But meet them halfway with love, peace and persuasion
And expect them to rise for the occasion

Don't it gratify when you see it materialize
Right in front of your eyes
By surprise
La, la, la, la . . .

And we'll send you glad tidings from New York
Open up your eyes so you may see
Ask you not to read between the lines
Hope that you will come right in on time, woah

And they'll lay you down low and easy

Ralph, check your Moondance copy again, it should be the last song.

Johnny Boy...Still the best when it comes to music and lyrics. I should  have known. I'd love to do a holiday lunch.  Viola will actually be in town for Christmas but I'm not sure of the dates. I'll call you. Can I still get you at the same number?

God rest ye merry gentlemen but even though dining with the two of you would right up there on my list of things to do before I die, I will only be in NYC over the Christmas weekend and my dance card is full with family stuff. Ralph will have the pleasure of seeing me on the Eve, Shannon, regrettably, I will need to take a rain-check. But thanks for thinking of me.

John, won't you be doing what you love best, in the state you love most, over the holidays anyway? Maybe we should plan to meet in Vail?

Rick, I will pick you up at the Morrison exit on I 70. Stand on top of the snow bank and wave your arms.
