I received this email from a couple of differant sources. I know a lot of the people who post on here are St Teresa / St Raphael folks. I coached against Joe at a lot of levels over the years. I figured I would post these letters. I'm not sure if we have any rules against this kind of posting , If we do I will be happy to take it down.

Hi Everyone,

I hope this e-mail finds you and your families well.  The time has come for me to send out an e-mail to almost everyone in my address book.

Joe Laietta has been very ill for quite a while.  He has not resided at home during most of that time.  As you can expect, the bills are piling up.  Carl and the folks at St. Raphael have gotten together and set up this benefit for Joe.  I know everyone is feeling the pinch (crunch) of these rotten financial times, but anything you can give would be greatly appreciated.  CONTACT CARL (not me) AT: 718 279 0995.  CYO was and is a fantastic organization of very caring people.  Joe was one of those who gave almost all he had to St. Teresa and then St. Raphael.

For those of you who either don't know or remember Joe Laietta, he was the PAR at St. Teresa for many years.  He then was involved with running St. Raphael's program, until he no longer could, due to health concerns.  Joe coached at McClancy HS for many years, and is an alum of the old Power Memorial HS (I think he may have been a student at the same time as Lew Alcindor [Kareem Abdul-Jabbar])  It would be appreciated if someone from McClancy and a Power alum could get this message to their respective groups.

If you are receiving this e-mail more than once, I apologize.

Thanks for all of your help.

Lenny

Hello, how are you?

Are you aware of the benefit for Joe Laietta?  I am not sure of the latest update on Joe's health but I will be speaking to his wife soon.  The proceeds will go to Joe's family to help with the costs of having come home from time to time and any other related medical costs.  I believe a small portion may be donated to St. Raphaels CYO.

I was wondering if you could help me get the word out if anyone that knows Joe would like to purchase tickets or 50-50 raffles?

The benefit will be on November 8th at St.Teresa's Auditorium.  My number at work is 718-279-0995.

The admission tickets donation are $35.00 each and the raffles are $1.00 each and 6 for $5.00.  If anyone cannot make it they can still purchase tickets if they want to contribute to the benefit.

Please pass this on, I think you have a large e-mail group that might want to participate.  You can give my number or e-mail address out to anyone interested.

Thank you very much, Carl Caridi.

ANYONE THAT GETS THIS MESSAGE, IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED IF YOU COULD SPREAD THE WORD TO ANYONE THAT YOU ARE AWARE OF THAT MIGHT KNOW JOE LAIETTA.  PLEASE CALL ME IF YOU NEED TICKETS OR RAFFLES.

Justin told me this afternoon that he got a call from Tommy McCabe to inform him he was going to be the bartender at this bash Saturday night. I said I didn't know him. Justin said he was pretty sure both Tommy and his sister were MC grads. Not that I think it will effect the attendance greatly but we are both going Saturday night.

Tom graduated from St. Teresa with me in '65. Another Woodside cut up. Fun guy to hang around with, just don't sit next to him in church.

Terrence , the place was packed.  I drove around almost 20 minutes looking for a parking place. There were a lot of guys I knew and plenty I didn't. I'd say easily over 1,000 . Hell there were 60 to 70 standing outside smoking at any given time. ( Kind of ironic at a benifit for a cancer patient)  Justin pointed out some local "legends" that i didn't know. The Redican brothers , the Sullivans , the Barrets , Gleason , Burke , a lot of guys with a lot of mileage . I 'll hit Justin up for some more names. But yes it was well attended. Joe himself looked terrible. he has brain cancer and has been operated on three times. As you would expect he is a shell of his former self. The guy who ran it Carl caridi took a lot of pictures I asked him to send me some I'll post them whem i get them

Oscar! really? I thought he was still in P.R. How 'bout Danny Ryan?
If Kevin Redican was there, I'd expect so was Jimmy Doyle. We were all cops together.
Glade to see my in-laws were there, Planken and Lord. Mickey D was my wife's fiancee when I met her. You threw him in to yank my chain, right?

Was" Woodside Girl " there?

Sorry I missed it.

Terrence ,  Joe and Sean Redican no Kevin. I actually would have liked to see Kevin he was a '70 man like me. I wasn't tweaking you about Mickey D , I actually didn't know him and honestly I don't know who your wife is now or she used to be in the old days  Was she MC alumn ?  I also asked about Danny Ryan was told he was attending a "gathering" in Long Beach where I'm pretty sure he lives. Might have been his week to run the meeting !!! I actually saw him last year at Jones Beach at a Hall and Oates concert he was looking pretty good and said he was doing well. I was also looking for Lynne and some of the other MC girls but didn't recognize anybody. Alas I don't Woodside girls secret Identity ( real name) so i can't comment on her attendance. All in all it seemed a good time was had by all.
