Dear Friends of the Brothers,

I apologize for this late note but we have been trying to get the word out that The Board of the La Salle School at St. Gabriel's Parish is honoring the Christian Brothers on Monday, November 10 at Bruno's on the Boulevard on 88 Street and Astoria Boulevard in East Elmhurst.

This event will assist the Brothers in raising the much needed funds to make Catholic education more affordable for the children of working class and immigrant families.  Your gift will be used for the children at the La Salle School at St. Gabriel's Parish.

The following Brothers who taught at Mater Christi will be at the Gala on Monday:

Brother Benedict
Brother Aquinas Richard Connors
Brother Austin David
Brother Joseph Patrick
Brother Stephen Creagh (who after he left MC spent over 30 years in Africa)
Brother Michael Dundin

There will also be many other Brothers attending who have taught in New York, Rhode Island and Africa.

I know that you are receiving this on Saturday and the event is in two days but your presence would mean a great deal to the Brothers.  Please call a friend or friends and invite them to join us.

The donation is $100 and you can e-mail me or call the school on Monday morning to say that you are able to come.

Thank you,
Brother Edward Shields, Class of 1968

Last Monday evening's fundraiser held at Bruno's for St. Gabriel's newly named 'The La Salle School' was a rousing success.  Among the Brothers from the '60's there were Bro(Conall Benedict) John Norton -APrin, (Columban) Stephen Creagh - Physics, returned from 35 yrs in Kenya,  Michael(Calixtus) Dundin - Art/Rel/Latin, Bro(Austin) David Carroll, several others who taught at St. Gabriel's as well including the Provincial,Bro. Edmond Precourt, his Auxiliary, Bro. Vincent Pelletier - recently returned from 30+ yrs in Ethiopia, Bro. Robert Ferguson and several former Brothers.

I was happy to be invited by the '67 MC guys to join them at the MC table - Mark Codd, Mike Quigley,JackMcGuinness, and Bryan Healy.  I sat next to '65's lone representative - Charlie Rabb.  At the other end of  the table were '68 Committeemen for the affair Ray Brun del Re and Bill Lavelle.  For all of us it was a very enjoyable evening.

There were two videos - one on the School - a very nice promo, and, the other a recent production on the DLS Christian Brothers.  Tickets were sold seemingly by the yard for prizes on display  and a silent auction provided the more substantial fare.  Bruno's  fine ambiance, service and food all contributed to the festive celebration of this inaugural affair.  I hope many more MC grads will eventually join Bro. Ed Shields '68 in his future fundraising efforts.

Brother Joe , it would help attendance and overall participation ( as well as fund raising) if we found out about it  in advance. This was very short notice. Lets get the word out early and a blog them on the page early from now on.

Tom, I fully agree with you.  I think part of the reason for the late notice was due to the Brothers - late in responding to Ed's call.  He couldn't advertise Bros being there who might not be in attendance.  I myself was at least tardy.

I forgot to mention another 60's RIer present Bro. (Aquinas) Richard Connors - Rel/SStudies.  Numerous former Bros were there with some relationship to MC or St. Gabe's over the years.
