Tony,
Look, this guy Kerins hasn't contributed anything to the discussion except to try to supress it with arrogance and sniping from the side. Perhaps I should have said: "You come across to me as a snide little bookish pip" and let others form thier own opinion.

Interesting! He is one person that makes me want to drink.  This is the "levity" thread, isn't it?

"So the race goes on and security for anyone is diminished with every nuclear weapon out there regardless of whose hands it is in."

Not unexpectedly I disagree.  I previously  mentioned the extensive, technologically advanced French nuclear deterrent.  I think we agree that France is not currently being threatened and could certainly substantially reduce or perhaps even eliminate their nuclear arsenal.  However that's a choice I would leave up to the French taxpayers who support it.  France is a civilized, rational society.  I don't think the French are going to unleash a nuclear holocaust for religious reasons or because Homer Simpson calls them cheese eating surrender monkeys.   I do not have the same level of confidence in the gang of loonies in Tehran who spend their time executing young girls for pre-marital sex while they wait for the 12th, or is it the 13th, Imam.  I think it makes a very big difference whose hands the weapons are in.

Surprisingly we agree that some countries are more likely to "casually" use nukes. But that is not the point I was trying to make. The very existance of 10s of 1000s of nukes on the planet decreases security and increases the liklihood of usage. For that reason the USA and the former Soviet embarked on a well intentioned though limited arms reduction many years ago. There is no conceivable reason for Israel (or Pakistan for that matter) to possess more than a handfull of these weapons.

As for Iran.....we have ZERO credibility on the planet. Anyone following GWB leadership is considered and idiot so tha tis the first thing that needs to be fixed. You want a multilateral move against Iranian nukes, you have to have credible leaders. This should be obvious.

Lunatic Cheney wanted to change the policy of the USA to a first strike pre-emptive posture on nukes along with new developments of additional weapons. If you make them they will be used.
Imagine the hours after a nuclear event in israel or other country that possesses multiple weapons. Chaos and theft are the likely result and nuclear insecurity will be the order of the day. The GOP being the party of FEAR will welcome this, IMHO but the rest of the world will not.
For SIX years we have watched North Korea, the most lunatic country on the planet , develop Nukes with impunity. We instead committed our troops and with that our leverage to invade Iraq which swore they did NOT have any weapons. This is failed strategy on a criminal level.

As a result of the US elections and continued UN inaction, Tehran sees no obstacle for continued uranium enrichment. Terrorist activity will slow to a halt to give further reason for a US pull out. If the US bails out of Iraq, Israel will have no choice but to arm to the teeth because it can no longer rely on the US to assist in its defense. and will have no buffer zone between them and Iran.
Israel will have no choice but to attack Iran first.

The DPRK seeing that the US has no stomach for confrontation that would include the loss of US forces will continue its nuclear programs. China will turn a blind eye to any boycott violations.

We will then be compelled to engage in another catastrophic war as lead by the other democratic presidents - Wilson, FDR, Truman, Kennedy/Johnson.

China, seeing that we are fully engaged will just walk into Taiwan.

Wow...TPT....you remind me of the old "parable" of the worker who had only a hammer and believed that all repairs were fied by hammering. (great guy to replace your windows)

Israel is not our buffer in the Middle East, they are our burden and the source of  current problems that caused terrorism. You can argue if it is worth it but it is undeniable.
Israel arm to the teeth? Where have you been? Imagine a place not much larger than Long Island with 100s of nukes? What good are they against small groups?

We lost ALL our credibility in the world. No plan will work when proposed by an administration who has screwed up so badly and a complete loser as a leader. The sooner GWB & Co. are swiftly removed, the sooner we will have a player on the field.

NKPR knows we will do nothing because we are in IRAQ in a quagmire that we has exausted our military.

Sorry TPT, you really need to be more strategic....if  you want to win. If all youwant is eternal war and death, you are on track....just like Armadijin (sp?) , Radicals of Hammas, Netenyahu, etc. Everyone of these sees war as the answer...like Bushie saying we wage war to assure the peace(?????)....

We create our enemies and embolden them. We ignore our risks and imagine ourselves omnipotent by our military.  We use fire power our enemies use cleverness....and OUR firepower .....

TPT, the irony is that the current administration is INCOMPETENT even at being an active agressor of the hammer variety. I am surprised you are not upset by that.

If I were still on the right, I would be embarrassed by the idiot who represents my ideas currently....why aren't you?

Note* I edited my above post to include Truman.

Eh, I saw the History channel last night. It's all over in 2012. The next president will be our last. Do we really want to enter into the "End Times" with a War-o-crat at the helm?

TPT....you really confuse me here....I assume you end times stuff was tongue in cheek....but the War-o-crat  comment really confused me. We know who rushed us to war in Iraq.....you aren't trying to imply that a democratic president would drive us to wars I hope....

2012.....hmmm....have to make sure I use all my frequent flier miles up before then....

UN sanctions? That's pretty funny. Doesn't anyone recall the Oil For Food Program and the corrupt UN diplomats, including Kofi Anna's son, profitting from it ? How about the Russians, Germans, French and the Chinese dealing with Saddam while UN sanctions were in place. How about the 17 UN resolutions Saddam Hussein arrogantly ignored. Oil-rich Iran can manipulate the West by turning off the spigot. The Democrats have already announced the rejection of John Bolton for another term as UN Ambassador. He is too pro-U.S. They prefer someone who can giggle and smile when Third World dictators threaten us with death. Besides, with Tuesday's election results, Khomeinists and other Islamofascists must be rejoicing. The white flag has been raised and the jihadists are going to get busy.

Actually you are right and wrong....they have great contempt for Rumsfeld and Bush...who doesn't? But they went on to challenge the USA to stay in Iraq because they want the opportunity to kill US troops...make no mistake, no one was more in favor of the Iraq invasion than Al-Queda. We not only took out one of thier anti-secular rulers (Saddam) but made the country a cause celebre for recruiting....guess you missed the US Intelligence summary released a few months ago....
Sorry, but only the branch from Abraham seperates you from these people.....both beleive that war and fighting for THIER god will make them victorious. Both take the taunts for war as a challenge to hit the other with another blow. Both sides see the return punch as proof that peace is impossible and both sides chide those on thier own side that seek it. Both sides produce death and destruction like little boy on a play field but now with adult weapons......Ironically, both sides also see themselves not as identical but polar opposites!

The scandals shown on 60 Minutes about 100s of millions of dollars that were stolen in Iraq make any food for peace issue seem tame....

Keep up the "good" fight .... we will all suffer but that is what you guys are into isn't it?
